Oracle for the 23 October 2022
34 - Three Four (Octal)
34 Heng
DURATION
Here we see a kind of reverse mirror-image of the previous hexagram, with thunder above and the gentle wind below. The image here is of rolling thunder and blowing wind, apparently the very antithesis of duration. Yet this is the paradox that you must understand. If you think of duration as meaning a stand-still, a kind of grim hanging on, this can lead only to stagnation and eventual death. But the ancient Chinese saw duration as being a very dynamic quality; the concept of change, as a universal law, requires one to cope with the constantly shifting sands of life with forethought, dignity and understanding. Conservatism and traditionalism are also inherent in this hexagram, in that the best way to handle changes in life is through the experience of traditional values. You need to have flexibility and strength to accommodate change without sustaining structural damage.
LINE OF CHANGE
SIX at the BOTTOM
Faced with the need to make changes in your life, it would be all too easy to rush at it. However, this will only create more problems in the course of time. Take things slowly and patiently now - your rewards will be much greater.
NINE in the SECOND PLACE
There is every chance that you might get a bit carried away at this point. Curb your over-enthusiasm and scale down your own dreams and ambitions. You are more likely to succeed if you move slowly and steadily.
NINE in the THIRD PLACE
Consistency is the keyword here. You cannot let yourself be buffeted around by every new idea or proposition that comes your way; this is a recipe for chaos. You need to seek out the calm at the heart of your own personal vortex, for it is there that you will find stability.
NINE in the FOURTH PLACE
If you are going in the wrong direction, no matter how long you travel you will just never get where you want to be. Turning around may be costly in the short term, but considerably less so in the long term than continuing mindlessly down the wrong road forever.
SIX in the FIFTH PLACE
In order to achieve your aims, it is important that you apply the right amount of the right sort of effort at the right time. A mismatch of energy and aim will lead to future problems.
SIX at the TOP
You cannot cope with life effectively if you are in a constant state of high tension. You can achieve a great deal more with a cool head and less haste. Do not get involved in any more undertakings until you have taken time out to relax.
