FIRE

This "double" hexagram has the trigram which represents "the clinging fire", both above and below. The ancient Chinese saw fire as having no definitive form and being totally dependent on the object that was burning - hence the use of the word "clinging" in respect of the fire trigram. They saw this as a relationship of inter-dependency - and that is what lies at the very heart of this hexagram. You and the focus of your predicament are dependent on each other, and you must find a way to use your energies constructively. The whole can equal more than the sum of the parts if you understand this relationship of inter-dependency and apply it intelligently. Fire will burn out very rapidly unless it has some lasting source on which to draw. At this point it is important to raise your level of self-understanding and avoid arrogance or excess.
